Some people fall into their careers. Dr. Renee Alhakim was drawn to hers at six years old. Growing up, her uncle was a dentist, and his clinic was as familiar to her as home. She and her sister would spend afternoons there, pressing couch cushions into pretend dental chairs and practicing on each other, mimicking what they heard him say to his patients. It was early, and it was vivid, and it stuck. Both sisters grew up to become dentists, but for Dr. Renee, it was always more than a career path. It was a calling.

Her University of Kentucky College of Dentistry and Early Career
Dr. Renee earned her dental degree from the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where she wasted no time making her mark. In her second year of dental school, she began seeing patients and completed a cosmetic bonding case that was published by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. It was a rare recognition for any dental professional, let alone a dental student. That same year, she received an award from the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry, a nod to the natural talent and dedication to aesthetic excellence she had already demonstrated before even graduating.
These early achievements were not a fluke. They were a preview of the kind of dentist Dr. Renee would become.
A Passion for Continuing Education
If there is one word Dr. Renee uses to describe herself, it is “CE nerd.” Within just a few years of graduating dental school, she had already completed more than 300 hours of continuing education and invested close to $100,000 in advanced training. To her, staying current is not optional. It is the standard.
Her certifications and training reflect just how wide her commitment runs. She is Invisalign certified, a Kois Center trainee, and holds Digital Smile Design (DSD) credentials. She has completed training in Botox for both cosmetic and orofacial pain applications, gum filler, dental photography, the Art of Ceramics for porcelain veneers, and the Art of Resin for cosmetic bonding. She has also completed full mouth rehabilitation coursework, which directly informs how she approaches complex, multidisciplinary cases today.
The breadth of her training is not something she takes lightly. As she puts it, keeping up with the latest technology and materials allows her to offer patients a wider range of options, including more conservative approaches that protect more natural tooth structure while still achieving the outcomes patients want.
